Helping reading teachers thrive means giving them the right tools, professional learning, and ongoing support to deliver strong, effective instruction. This includes access to high-quality teaching materials, targeted training, and a collaborative culture that encourages sharing and growth. It’s equally important to recognise their hard work and ensure they have the time and resources needed to teach reading well.
Positive feedback is consistent from our schools. Here’s a closer look at how Literacy for Kids supports our reading teachers (both at primary and secondary levels) ~
1. Equip Teachers with Quality Resources
Teaching Materials
Provide a rich selection of reading resources, including a variety of levels, culturally diverse texts, and engaging digital content suited to students’ age and interests.
Technology Tools
Support reading instruction with technology such as interactive content, a Teacher Dashboard, a Learner Dashboard and assistive tech to meet varied learning needs.
Professional Learning
Offer regular, practical professional development that focuses on the science of reading, research-backed strategies, and differentiated teaching approaches. We love schools visits (where possible) and Zoom/Teams meetings. Does your literacy program offer FREE teacher training and onboarding?
2. Build a Culture of Collaboration
Open Communication
Maintain strong communication between teachers, school leaders, and learning support teams to align goals and share insights. Literacy for Kids fosters good communication between all school educators from the Principal to the teacher-aides.
Mentorship Programs
Our team connects new or early-career teachers with experienced training to provide encouragement and practical advice on how to teach reading.
3. Acknowledge and Value Their Contribution
Positive Recognition for Students
Literacy for Kids celebrates learner success with personalised certificates that recognise effort, progress and achievement. It’s a fun and motivating way to reward reading milestones—does your literacy program do this too?
4. Resources to Support the Teaching of Reading Strategies
FREE Resources for our Reading Teachers
Our creative team have produced dozens of free classroom resources to save teacher time and also as a ‘Thankyou’ for supporting our program. Examples include image-rich digital writing prompts, Turn & Talk Comprehension cards, printable comprehension sheets for each level, ‘student-approved’ cool bookmarks and much more.
5. Help Teachers Support Struggling Readers
Targeted Strategies
Equip teachers with structured intervention tools and support on how to utilise LFK with struggling readers. We work with support teachers and aides to equip them the confidence to work with lower ability learners.
Personalised Instruction
Encourage approaches that respond to individual learning needs and pace. Our Learner Dashboard reports student progress in real-time and encourages learners to monitor their progress accordingly.
Family Involvement
Empower teachers to build strong partnerships with families to reinforce reading habits at home. Our Founder, Tanya, has run parent webinars to offer tips on how parents can value reading at home. We offer strategies that parents can REALLY use!
By backing reading teachers with the tools, time, and recognition they deserve, schools can create a stronger foundation for student literacy success.
