As a passionate teacher and literacy specialist, my work sits at the intersection of research and classroom practice. After a decade of teaching, another decade establishing a large tutoring business and following the educational research, I wanted to develop a literacy program that not only engages learners but focusses on core literacy concepts. Our program supports teachers to deliver high-quality literacy instruction in ways that maximise student learning while also reducing teacher workload. As I visit schools in person – or online – I wanted to share 6 ways that schools utilise our LFK program in order to lift literacy outcomes. This is the work that I love!
1. Explicit Teaching of Literacy Concepts

In her 4th year of using LFK, this teacher is using LFK for whole class instruction for reviewing key comprehension strategies.
Explicit teaching methods make the development of reading skills clear, structured and intentional. Key comprehension strategies are directly taught and modelled, ensuring students understand not just what to do, but how and why they use each skill. These skills are then reinforced through engaging, carefully selected texts that draw students in and maintain their interest. By combining explicit instruction with meaningful reading material, the program helps students build confidence, deepen comprehension, and develop stronger, more transferable literacy skills.
2. Secondary School Learners ~ content that appeals to teens
State Education, Catholic Colleges and Independent Schools have implemented LFK across their Year 7 to 9 cohorts to ensure older learners were actively

engaged in meaningful literacy development while strengthening whole-school outcomes. Rather than relying on generic resources, the program was used with texts and tasks specifically designed to appeal to adolescent interests and maturity, making reading and writing feel relevant and purposeful. Explicit instruction in key literacy skills was embedded during literacy blocks, allowing students to practise comprehension, writing, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation. Feedback has been incredibly positive with teachers commmenting on the wide range and appeal of our topics to engage learners and contributing to measurable gains in whole-school literacy achievement.
3. Focussed Literacy Support for Teens ~ a program that TAs can use with confidence

This picture is from one of our Dept secondary schools that are in their third year of using LFK and continue to reflect strong literacy growth.
Literacy for Kids is very effective for secondary learners who require additional literacy support, providing structured, explicit teaching that helps close gaps without simplifying the content in ways that disengage older students. The program is also highly valued by teacher aides, who appreciate the clear instructions and well-modelled examples of key literacy concepts that make delivery straightforward and consistent across classrooms.👏We celebrate the role of TAs and their positive feedback!
4. Powerful Analytics via the Teacher Dashboard & Student Dashboard Empowers Learners to take Ownership of their Achievement

Measuring Learner Progress – every learner’s results in one place!
Want to see a class’ progress at a glimpse? Want to ensure all learners are working at their Level? Want learners to monitor their achievement? Monitoring an entire class is essential and part of providing differentiated learning. Literacy for Kids uses powerful analytics to measure student growth over time, clearly depicting learning gaps and ensuring learners are appropriately extended while still working at the right instructional level. This data-driven approach allows teachers to quickly identify areas of need and tailor support or extension accordingly, making literacy instruction more precise and responsive. The Student Dashboard also provides a strong layer of accountability for achievement, offering real-time reporting so students can track their own progress. With visible percentage scores and clear records of completed and remaining tasks, learners are encouraged to take ownership of their progress, stay engaged, and actively work towards completion and mastery of key literacy skills.
5. FREE Term by Term Diagnostic Testing Results straight to Teachers’ Inboxes ~ clearly identifies comprehension gaps

Here’s an example of one of our Term Reports. Teachers receive this each term – not extra work, our team compile the data!
Perhaps one of our program’s best features for educators! Each term learners complete a TELL (Tracking Evidence in Literacy Learning) task, providing timely and actionable insight into student progress. These reports allow teachers to clearly identify comprehension gaps at both individual and cohort levels, helping them pinpoint exactly where additional support or instruction is needed. With this data in hand, teachers are able to refine their focus, adjust teaching strategies, and target specific literacy skills with greater precision. The result is a more responsive and evidence-based approach to literacy instruction that directly informs classroom practice and improves student outcomes over time.
5. Versatility & One Program that covers ALL Literacy Concepts

Learners completing individual LFK Levelled tasks
Educators want a program that covers reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation – all in one place. Don’t waste time photocopying worksheets or spend money on website resources that need adapting. LFK is Australian curriculum aligned whereby every literacy concept is connected to the topic (thus relevant) and follows Curriculum V9. Click here to go to our Teachers Section, go to Our Levels and Select Our Topics. At home, LFK is used to reinforce classroom learning through structured homework tasks that consolidate skills and build independence. This flexible approach ensures continuity of learning across different contexts while maximising student engagement and progress.
